Plastic Free July With Ethical Boutique

Plastic Free July With Ethical Boutique

We all know that plastic is incredibly harmful to our environment. Not only is plastic filling up landfills and taking a long time to disappear, but it is also ending up in our oceans and killing our marine life too.

Knowing the damage that we are doing to our planet, more and more of us are focused on doing whatever we can to take care of the place that we call Earth. This is where the idea of Plastic Free July comes in.

Plastic Free July is a movement that brings millions of people together around the world to try and create a solution to plastic pollution. They want to ensure that we understand why single use plastic is having such a negative impact on our eco-system and what we can all do to try and rectify any damage.

There are 250 million people participating around the world across 177 countries. All of these people making even the smallest of changes is going to have such a huge impact that we will actually feel for years to come.

It doesn’t matter if you make the changes at home, at school or at work. There is so much to be said for trying to remove single use plastics from our lives.

Why is plastic free July so important?

In order to understand the importance of Plastic Free July, you need to first know the damage that single use plastic is actually doing.

Whilst we may think that the majority of plastic that we use is either already recycled or can be recycled in the future. However, this isn’t the case. In fact, it is thought that as little as 9% of the plastic in the world has been recycled. When you think about the fact that there is around 9 billion tonnes of plastic in the world, you can see how big the problem is.

Even more important is the fact that these plastics end up in the landfills around the world, in the natural environment and of course in our waters too. They do not biodegrade as other materials do. They simply break down into smaller pieces of plastic over time and the toxic chemicals that make up plastic find their way into the soil, the water, the animals themselves and then eventually, us as people. If the plastic contains Styrofoam then it is thought that it can cause damage to us internally.
